Q: What is “Money Matters” National Education Day?
A: “Money Matters” National Education Day is a national volunteer effort to help America’s teens better understand their paychecks. On September 4, 2008 at Centennial High School, volunteers from APA’s 22,000 members across the country will unite to teach high school students in their community the ins and outs of their paychecks and the payroll withholding system.
Q: How can I find out more about the American Payroll Association?
A: “Money Matters” National Education Day is conducted in conjunction with the national public awareness campaign, National Payroll Week, held annually during the week of Labor Day. During this special week, the APA seeks to raise awareness important work of payroll professionals and to educate workers in America on the intricacies of their paycheck and the tax withholding system.
Q: How Can Fulton County Students Participate?
A: Centennial High School will host a Financial Literacy Symposium for High School Students on September 4, 2008 hosted by Mike Kavanagh (WSB Radio) and Lisa Poole, (Payroll Manager, Simmons Corp. and Board of Director member for the Metro Atlanta Payroll Association).
Students will be invited to a presentation that will be held in the auditorium. Using video streaming, the presentation will be transmitted to high school students throughout the district in their business classes. During a smaller, less formal setting, Mike and Lisa will provide more information and entertain questions from interested students (Banking, Finance, Accounting, Entrepreneurship classes). This will be done in the distance learning lab, thus allowing students at other schools to participate in this part of the presentation as well via their distance learning labs. The symposium is a collaborative effort between the CTE Department and the local chapter of the American Payroll Association.
