Q. Who is my Counselor? How do I see my Counselor?

A. Please see the "Meet Your Counselors" section of our web site for your counselors name and email. To make an appointment with a counselor, students can fill out the green counselor appointment request form available in the counseling office. For parents, please call your student's counselor directly to set up an appointment.

Q. What are the AHS Counseling Office Hours?

A. The AHS Counseling Office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.

Q. How do I register my child at AHS?

A. Please visit our "Enrollment" page to find the steps to enrolling a new student at AHS. You will need to call the counseling office directly to set up an enrollment appointment with the appropriate counselor. Also, there are various documents that need to be filled out and it would be helpful to pick up a registration packet prior to your appointment time.

Q. How many credits do you need to be promoted to the next grade?

A. 10th grade=5 credits, 11th grade=10 credits, 12th grade=16 credits

Q. How can I make up failed classes?

A. You can make up failed classes through night school, summer school, online courses, or in your schedule. Click here for more information. Some classes require prior approval, so ALWAYS check with you counselor before starting a class outside of school.

Q. When are the SAT's and ACT's offered? How do I sign up?

A. Please see "Testing Information" section of our site for up to date information on SAT and ACT test dates and registration deadlines. You can register for the SAT through www.collegeboard.com or for the ACT through www.act.org.

Q. What is the college application process?

A. Click HERE to see the AHS college application process. The college application process begins each year at AHS in early September, giving students ample time to request transcripts, counselor forms, and letters of recommendation from the counseling office. We require a minimum of 2 weeks notice to process materials, so make sure to be aware of all deadlines for the colleges. For specific questions about the college application process, see your counselor.

Q. How can I find out more about the HOPE Scholarship?

A. To find out more about the HOPE Scholarship, please visit the web site for the Georgia Student Finance Commission, www.gsfc.org, or call 1-800-546-HOPE.

Q. How can I find out how my student is performing in his/her classes?

A. The ParentCONNECTxp program is updated on a daily basis Monday through Friday. There will be times when the daily updates are impossible due to situations beyond our control. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Teachers enter attendance information daily. It will be available the following day. Teachers publish major tests, papers, and projects at least 3 days prior to the due date. Teachers enter daily grades, such as in-class and homework, within 10 days. Major test grades are entered by the 10th school day after the test. Major paper, project, and laboratory grades are entered by the 15th school day following the due date. Noting differing methods of testing and project expectations, exceptions to the above guidelines may occur. All information coming from and going to the ParentCONNECTxp web site is secured and cannot be viewed by anyone else on the web.
