Superintendent Wilson came to New Prospect for Slip into Reading Day. Ms. Ferguson’s fourth grade class and several other teachers were able to hear him discuss leadership and how we are in need of more leaders in the world such as teachers, principals, and civic leaders. He related a story from one of his favorite books about a fire chief leading his men to safety from a brush fire. In the story, instead of running from the fire, the chief had all the men stand in a circle and lit a circle of fire around them. The men thought this was crazy! However, when the brush fire reached them, it burned everything except for that circle. Because the leader had burned the grass in the circle around the men, there was nothing left to burn when the fire reached that area. It saved the men’s life. The students truly enjoyed meeting Mr. Wilson and were amazed by his story. We all hope he’ll come back and visit again soon!
