Northwestern Middle School

Northwestern Principal Bruce Fraser and Stephanie, 7th grade student, strike a pose after Stephanie took advantage of the opportunity to deliver a cream pie directly to his face as part of 7th grade efforts to raise money for Relay for Life.

Northwestern 7th Graders Throw Pies for Charity

Northwestern Middle School 7th grade students, teachers, and school administrators gathered Monday, March 5th to make good on a promise that some members of the faculty might rather have forgotten.  For the last two weeks students at the school have been aggressively raising money to meet their $20,000 school goal for the Relay for Life fundraising effort to support cancer research.
Last week students purchased chances to deliver a cream pie to the face of their favorite 7th grade teacher or administrator.  After reaching their first grade level goal of $1,000 the previous week and enjoying a Tacky Day reward as a result, they raised another $1,000 with the Pie Face campaign.
On Monday, sixteen pies were enthusiastically delivered by the winning students to the delight of their 7th grade team mates who cheered them on as their teachers and administrators caught them full force in the face.  Stephanie Kipniss won the honor of delivering the big pie to big guy, Principal Bruce Fraser.  When asked how she felt about planting a cream pie in the face of the principal, Stephanie grinned thoughtfully then offered, “At first I was really nervous that Mr. Fraser would be mad, but it was really fun.  And afterwards, I could tell that he thought it was fun too.”
This is the second year that Northwestern has supported this fundraising effort for cancer research.  Community members and local businesses who are interested in joining Northwestern’s efforts are encouraged to contact school coordinator Kim Cherry for details on how they can join our students as they continue in this effort to raise money for the cure.
