Proposed school year calendars being discussed by school board

The Fulton County School System is currently reviewing several options for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school year calendars. The Calendar Committee has recommended a 177-day school year calendar so that students have ample instructional time while also allowing a later-August start date.

In addition to the 8.85 hours of increased instructional time, which comes from adding 10 minutes to each school day, three professional learning days for teachers would be held prior to preplanning week for required system-level training.

Flu Information Center hosted on FCSS web site

Is it the seasonal flu or H1N1 that's causing sniffling and coughing in our schools? Regardless of the flu type, health officials are now saying that both viruses presently are affecting children and adults similarly and should be handled in the same manner -- with plenty of rest, fluids, fever-reducing pain relievers and to stay at home until symptoms and fever are gone.

Benefits advisors to help with Open Enrollment process

The school system's annual open enrollment will be conducted October 9 to November 10. In order to better serve employees, the district has partnered with Enrollment Advisors, Inc. and its dedicated team of benefits counselors. They will meet individually with each employee during the open enrollment period.

Each school will have a benefits counselor scheduled to conduct a "Benefits Check-Up" sometime during the four-week enrollment. These non-commissioned advisors will help employees review their current elections to ensure their coverage still fits their needs.
