French class opens a window to the world...
Bonjour! We are Monsieur Fort and Madame Parham, the French teachers for Creek View Elementary School . We believe that French class opens a window to the world and broadens our knowledge of today's global community. Learning a foreign language becomes an adventure in communication and a discovery of how our heritage and culture are related to those of other countries. Creek View Elementary School offers a daily 30-minute French class in the 4th and 5th grades. The curriculum is based on state standards and includes topics relevant to the students' everyday life.
In the 4th grade, the focus is on developing basic conversational and comprehension skills.
Attentive listening and class participation are important to the students' success. Gradually, they are introduced to reading and writing in French. Some of the topics include greetings, numbers, weather, time, colors, family, foods, descriptions, daily activities and the community environment. Naturally, one of the most anticipated topics is food, when we get to sample some typical French foods and snacks!
In the 5th grade, students continue to build on what they have learned.
Students become more proficient in comprehension and more creative in their responses. The students enjoy a variety of projects which, in the past, have included creating their own French books, presenting fashion shows and participating in typical French holiday celebrations. In addition, 5 th grade French students have often made presentations on the morning school television program.
As French teachers in an elementary school, we are committed to making our classes a fun experience, while instilling an enthusiasm and interest in continuing French in middle school and beyond.
NOTICE: In the first half of 2006 the Board of Education cited budgetary reasons for cutting the foreign language program in elementary schools so we no longer offer a foreign language program. The band and orchestra programs also threatened by cuts remains intact.
