Aspiring school leaders selected for ALPHA Earlier this school year, the Fulton County School System launched the "V2 Leadership Academy," a program that identifies, develops and supports education professionals who aspire to move into leadership roles within the district.
The academy recently announced 26 individuals for its newest program -- the Aspiring Leaders Program, or ALPHA.

Charitable Fund campaign exceeds annual goal
 The Fulton School Employees' Charitable Fund has done the seemingly impossible during a dismal economy -- exceed its contribution goal.
The campaign raised more than $476,000, which is a 7 percent increase over the previous year.

Technology Department launches new password reset feature
Ever forget your computer password? The Information Technology Department has debuted a self-service password reset feature. This allows you to reset a forgotten or expired password without needing to call the FCSS Help Desk or your local tech specialist.
Accessed under the "Staff Only" pull-down menu of the FCSS web site, employees will need their SAP Person ID and must answer some security questions to enable the password to be reset.

Hardship transfer applications now available
 Employees whose children attend a Fulton County school through the hardship transfer process can pick up a 2009-10 application through all elementary and middle schools or access it online. The deadline for submitting a transfer application is Feb. 27, by 4:30 p.m., with no exceptions or extensions granted. Employees completing renewal applications (children returning to the same school for the 2009-10 school year) may submit the request to their child's school. | |

Five additional schools earn ENERGY STAR
 Five additional Fulton County schools have been granted the ENERGY STAR designation by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. They join the list of 16 other schools who received the award in October.

Langston Hughes High School approved as school's name
The school board voted in December to name South Fulton's newest high school in honor of Langston Hughes, the African-American writer whose work was prominent during the Harlem Renaissance. Appropriately, the school is located beside Renaissance Elementary School and across the street from Renaissance Middle School. Langston Hughes High School will open in August.

Georgia Partnership outlines top 2009 educational issues
 What are the key educational issues facing Georgia in 2009? Ranging from funding issues and school vouchers, to teacher staffing and community engagement, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, a local think-tank headed by former Fulton Superintendent Stephen Dolinger, has produced a report identifying those subjects and offering analyses on how they will impact our state.
