Golf tournament draws $90K
The net totals are still being tallied, but this year's "Fore" Kids Golf Classic was undoubtedly a hit among its participants.
Nearly 130 golfers turned out to raise money for the Fulton Education Foundation, pulling in a gross $90,000 in contributions and in-kind donations. The net proceeds will fund vision testing, eyeglass acquisition, innovative technology teaching methods and teacher recognition.

Staff satisfaction survey online until May 22
Time is running out to take the 2009 Staff Satisfaction Survey. The survey is available online until May 22 and can be taken from any computer by accessing the link below. Individual responses will be combined with other responses from your school/division and reported back to principals/division leaders as a whole; therefore, responses can not be tracked back to a school system email address or computer. You can use a FCSS computer or a computer at home, a friend or family member's house, or the local library. Please be assured that your responses are anonymous.

Employees of the Year named for system, individual schools
The Fulton County School System proudly announces its 2009-10 Employees of the Year.
Each spring, schools are invited to nominate outstanding educators based on teacher, staff and parent input. These professionals are then evaluated a second time and one outstanding Elementary, Middle and High School Teacher of the Year is announced. From these final three educators, one is chosen as the Fulton County Overall Teacher of the Year.

Seventeen additional schools -- and one administrative building -- have earned the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR rating. This brings the school system's total to 40 buildings with the distinction, making it the largest school system in Georgia to have so many energy efficient buildings.

Take One! initiative showcases teaching expertise
In 2008, Stonewall Tell Elementary School became the first Fulton school to have all teachers participate in the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards' Take One! process.

Changes coming due to
FY 2010 budget
In June, the school board is set to vote on the school system's operating budget for the 2009-10 school year. This has been one of the most challenging budget seasons to date, and has required flexibility and out-of-the-box thinking to keep the budget balanced while still funding the system's growing needs. Some changes may not be popular but are necessary in order to keep our full-time staff employed.

Teachers Retirement System changing contribution rates
Beginning July 1, the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia will change its employee contribution rate. This means that employees participating in TRS will see a change in their paychecks as a result of the new contribution rate, which is changing from 5.00% to 5.25% a month.
Members of both TRS and the Fulton County Schools Employees' Pension Plan (FCSEPP) will not see an increase in their "total" contribution, as their contribution to the FCSEPP will decrease when the TRS contribution increases. Members of FCSEPP only will see no impact to their contributions.
