Art - Language Arts Connections
A strength of Fulton County Schools (FCS) and art education in FCS is our belief in both a discipline based approach to art education (the inclusion of art history, aesthetics, art criticism, and art production) and the importance of interdisciplinary learning. This is apparent in each of our elementary art classrooms and is typified by units that stress the interdisciplinary nature of learning. Art is a place where students apply learning and engage with ideas across the curriculum while they meet our challenging visual art learning standards. Many lessons link Georgia Performance Standards in language arts, science, math or social studies with art standards. See below and the Science/Art link (left) for examples. Our elementary art specialists also serve as a resource within their schools for general classroom teachers in ways to enhance learning and student engagement through arts based approaches. This may take to form of fully integrated units or simple consultations on how to create hands-on learning experiences across the curriculum. |
