   Vol. 6 No. 1 (August 2008)

A welcome to our teachers and staff...

Rapport Online is published once a month during the school year; sometimes more frequently if there's a major announcement or urgent news to be shared. Our purpose is to keep you informed about issues and events affecting employees. This is the one publication with a mission to reach all 14,000+ employees of our school system.
This Month's Special Features:

Fulton begins using new balanced math approach

This school year, Fulton begins using a blended approach to teaching the new Georgia Performance Standards mathematics curriculum.

Over the summer, teachers received additional training in the math curriculum, which will be continued throughout the school year.

Other program changes:

Affidavit of Residence returns with minor changes

In August, parents are again required to submit a notarized Affidavit of Residence form for each child. However, the school board has made the process more streamlined from its previous requirement of needing all students to submit a notarized affidavit and proof of residence.

Early Release Days return for 2008-09

calendarThe school year calendar has five Early Release Days built in so that staff can receive professional development throughout the year. On these days, schools dismiss students approximately three hours earlier from their regular dismissal time.

The dates for 2008-09 are
Sept. 17, 2008; Oct. 15, 2008; Nov. 19, 2008; Feb. 25, 2009 and March 25, 2009.

Early release days were piloted in 2006-07 in the Alpharetta and Milton clusters of schools. Due to its success, the initiative was expanded districtwide in 2007-08.
