Loe celebrates first year as superintendent
 
Dr. Cindy Loe's first year as Fulton County Schools Superintendent was celebrated on April 1.
 
During her first year of the superintendency, Loe has faced unprecedented challenges, such as significant state budget cuts, but also has triumphed in areas of student achievement, community engagement and staff involvement.
 
 
Stonewall Tell Elementary tackles National Board Certification with Take One!

Forty teachers at Stonewall Tell Elementary School are pursuing National Board Certification through the Take One! program of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Lake Windward Elementary to celebrate 20 years
Lake Windward Elementary School will mark its 20th anniversary on April 28 with a celebration at the school. 
 
Principal Marcy Messina will lead a full day of festivities include a gathering of students, teachers, parents and alumni, on the school athletic field for live rock music and a picnic lunch.   
 
Westlake High School to dedicate new building May 2
Join the Westlake High School family for a dedication ceremony on May 2. Current and former staff and students are invited as well as parents and community members. The event begins at 10 a.m. at the school's new campus.
 
Annual retirement reception planned for May 19
The annual Fulton County Schools retirement reception is May 19, 6:30 p.m., at the Georgia World Congress Center. Only employees that have completed and returned pension applications to the Pension Office by April 13 can be honored at this year's event.


 
Transfer applications accepted until April 30
 
paperworkApril 30 is the deadline for employment transfer applications. Information was emailed to all employees in late March by the Human Resources Department.
 
Those requesting a transfer should submit paperwork directly to the principal at the school (or director at the site) they desire. Surplussed employees will be given priority for open positions, and general transfers will only be considered once an administrator has confirmed through the Human Resources Department that no surplus employee is available to place in the position. 
 
Make-up days set for March 2 snowday
 
The March 2 snowday resulted in an unexpected holiday for many Fulton County Schools employees. However, to satisfy the terms of their employment contracts or workday calendars, employees must make up the missed day or take appropriate leave.  
 
 
 
 
Lake Forest Elementary holds dedication ceremony
 
Lake Forest Elementary School in Sandy Springs held a dedication ceremony March 26 to celebrate its first year as a new school.
 
Parents, students, Lake Forest staff and principals from nearby schools joined in for the celebration. Local elected officials as well as school system leaders, including Superintendent Cindy Loe and school board members Linda Bryant, Julia Bernath and Gail Dean, also turned out for the festivities. 
 
Highlighted activities included performances from the school's chorus and mariachi band. The Lake Forest media center also was dedicated in honor of Otis M. Jackson, a former Fulton County school board member and a longtime resident of Sandy Springs.
 
 
 
School system to host salary hearings 

Two public hearings will be held on proposed salary schedules for the 2009-10 school year. All Fulton County School System employees are invited to attend and/or provide feedback.

The hearings will allow the Board of Education to have input prior to adopting the FY10 Fulton County School System budget. Final budget approval is expected to occur at the June 9 school board work session at the Administrative Center.
